Honey and Me shortlisted for the 2023/24 Hackmatack Award!

Wow, how cool! Honey and Me has been shortlisted in the English language fiction category of The Hackmatack Children’s Choice Book Award–a literary program designed for young readers and based in Atlantic Canada.

Each year, thousands of children in grades four to six read from the selection of outstanding Canadian books and vote for their favourites.

The Hackmatack Award was established with young readers in mind and serves to achieve the following objectives:

  • to promote and advance reading and literacy among school-aged children in Atlantic Canada
  • to foster the development and appreciation of writing in both of Canada’s official languages, through a reading program
  • to encourage a greater official public recognition of the work of Canadian writers

The Hackmatack Selection Committee nominates renowned Canadian books for young readers to the Hackmatack shortlist. The forty books nominated for the Hackmatack Award are divided into four categories – English Fiction, English Non-fiction, French Fiction and French Non-fiction.

More info about the award here. Congrats to the 2022/23 winners! Here is a list of the other 2023/24 shortlisted titles.

I am so excited beyond words to find out that Honey and Me is included and that thousands of children in Atlantic Canada will be reading about Milla and Honey!
